12. SECURITY MEASURES FOR TRANSPORT SHIPS AND SHIPS OF THE PORT FLEET IN CASE OF GAS ALERT (CHLORINE, AMMONIA) IN PORT

12.1. GAS ALERT signal is preceded by ATTENTION EVERYONE signal: continuous sounds of sirens, whistles of enterprises, ships and other means of attracting attention. Then alert is announced by loud speakers with addition of the words “chlorine” or “ammonia”. The signal shall be supported by all ships staying in Port.

12.2. When executing arrival Ship Master shall get acquainted with instructions for organizing protection of crew and visiting persons from possible affection of virulent toxic agents (VTA) and take the following measures:

  • Acquaint all crew members with GAS ALERT signal;
  • Get collective protection posts (CPP) ready and establish procedure and organization of crew protection (sheltering) in CPPs and Port shelters according to procedure used upon GAS ALERT signal;
  • Acquaint all crew personnel with chemical properties of chlorine and ammonia, dislocation of Port shelters and measures taken to provide first aid at poisoning;

12.3. If gas alert is announced in Port, ship crew personnel’ and visitors’ protection events shall be held according to ship’s schedule; Shi Master, by any communication means, shall advise Port Master and Port Manager of situation on the ship.

12.4. Information about situation in Port under emergency shall be advised to Ship Master by Relief Operations Manager on duty, the ISPS Relief Chief or CSTR.
