Potential cargo base in the region of Dnieper river is about 70 million tons and 350 thousand TEU, which suggests the possibility of growth of cargo transportation by river transport more than by 15 times.

That was reported by Olga Fedor - Head of business department of shipping company ‘Ukrrechflot’, during the Forum of transport infrastructure development of Ukraine in Kiev on 26.02.2015.

According to her, river transportation can compete with railways, particularly in the currently prevailing difficult financial conditions and taking into account the rising cost of fuel. She said that domestic cargo river transport amounted to 5 million tons and 2 thousand TEU in 2014.
